BLACKSBRUG – The Virginia Tech Athletics Division introduced the hiring of Josh Larrick as head coach for the spirit squad packages Wednesday afternoon. Larrick has been promoted to the place after having spent the final seven years working as an assistant spirit coach at Virginia Tech. He’ll oversee the day-to-day operation of the cheerleading, dance group (HighTechs) and mascot program.
“I’m very grateful and excited to take over the spirit packages at Virginia Tech,” head spirit coach Josh Larrick stated. “I am unable to wait to proceed my profession at my alma mater and discover new and higher methods to help all of our athletic groups.”
Throughout his time as assistant coach, his duties with the cheer group included correct stunting, baskets, tumbling and pyramid method. He has been instrumental in recruiting males to the cheer program and in serving to choreograph recreation day and nationals’ performances.
Previous to working as an assistant coach, Larrick was a member of the cheer program from 2008 – 2013 and graduated with a level in Materials Science & Engineering from Virginia Tech in 2013.
Throughout his time as a student-athlete, he helped the group to their highest place in program historical past, ending fourth at NCA Nationals in 2012. He served as captain of the group in 2012-13 and was named Cheerleading Energy & Conditioning Athlete of the Yr in 2011-12. Larrick is from Winchester, VA and resides in Christiansburg, VA.
