VALDOSTA — Mehvish Kiran Durrani of Valdosta, Georgia, is the recipient of the Spring 2020 President’s Award for Educational Excellence for the Faculty of Science and Arithmetic at Valdosta State College.
The President’s Award for Educational Excellence is introduced to the graduating pupil with the best grade level common in every of VSU’s six faculties — Harley Langdale Jr. Faculty of Enterprise Administration, Faculty of Nursing and Well being Sciences, Faculty of the Arts, James L. and Dorothy H. Dewar Faculty of Schooling and Human Companies, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, and Faculty of Science and Arithmetic.
Durrani can be acknowledged throughout VSU’s digital 229th Graduation at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Could 9, at valdosta.edu/graduation. She is going to graduate summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, a Bachelor of Science in Biology, and an Honors Faculty Certificates.
“I’m so grateful to be a recipient of this prestigious award,” she mentioned. “Being named the highest graduate of my faculty means a lot to me due to all of the onerous work I put in these previous 4 years. It motivates me to do even higher in my future research.”
“Along with this award,” she added, “I’m grateful for my household, my pals, and the professors I’ve had through the years. I’m the place I’m right now due to their fixed assist.”
As a pupil at VSU, Durrani was a member of the Arabic Tradition Membership, the place she served as president from 2018 to 2020 and vice chairman from 2017 to 2018; the Psi Phi Chapter of Beta Beta Beta: The Nationwide Organic Honor Society; Pupil Members of the American Chemical Society; and the Honors Pupil Affiliation. She served others as a volunteer with South Georgia Medical Middle’s Emergency Division and the college’s Faculty Help Migrant Program.

Durrani plans to proceed her training within the fall by attending medical college. She mentioned she hopes “to grow to be a physician someday in order that I can apply in rural and medically underserved communities.” She is the daughter of Dost and Azra Durrani and sister of Daanish Durrani.
