A West Shore RCMP officer and his four-legged associate starred in an RCMP video celebrating Nationwide Police Week on Wednesday.
Cpl. Melvin Sansome and police canine Erik, each members of the West Shore RCMP and South Island Police Canine Companies, provide perception into their coaching, duties and day-to-day work.
“Finest a part of my job, clearly, is working with the canine,” Sansome says. “The canine’s lots of enjoyable. It’s enjoyable to observe the quirkiness of the canine, the best way he approaches issues. It’s actually cool to see him really doing a job and to see him find a gun, or find medicine or discover anyone that’s lacking.”
Nationwide Police Week is a public training marketing campaign that runs from Could 10 to 16. Beginning in 1970, the event is a manner for police to attach with communities and improve consciousness about their companies and duties.
