What do politics, religion and electricity have in common? All are misunderstood and often miscalculated. It’s the miscalculation that often results in devastation.
Not fully understanding a topic often leads to misconceptions, inadequate opinions and, as we all can agree, far too many improper damaging decisions.
Electricity: We all rely every day on power of electricity. Flip a switch, turn a knob, push a button and lights go on, radio plays and television entertains. We take this unknown power for granted, without truly knowing how it works. It’s when we, unaware of the process, attempt to correct a problem in the system, those misconceptions often lead to a serious problem, property damage, injury or death.
Religion: Accepting many teachings of religion; so many interpretations of Bible writings without fully understanding religion in general has led to so many damaging decisions; e.g. 1978 Jonestown Massacre, Waco Siege and others “based on religious beliefs,” religious teachings, and sadly, religious leaders.
Politics: Before I attempt to explain why politics is included in this “misunderstanding” discussion, why so many of us truly don’t understand politics, encompasses when the term comes up, see an automatic discussion, argument over personal interest. To many, politics is “us” against “you.” Although, when it comes to “party politics,” this may be true, the doctrine of “politics” goes beyond party affiliation.
Looking at the true definition of politics when considering our elected officials: it is merely the “art” or “science of government,” or how those elected officials will govern our country, administer our established democratic republic form of government via the Constitution. It is a democracy because people govern themselves. To somewhat organize the “people governing” aspect, we choose representatives and elected officials via our voting rights, process.
The relevance of the topics discussed.
The “choice” combined with misunderstanding aspect is so important and often results in a decision that many truly weren’t expecting.
When considering the topics in this discussion, religion, electricity and politics: If you chose the wrong person, if you accept the thinking, the qualifications pushed forward by one who suggests “they” know all about the subject, without doing a little background research on that person, their knowledge, their training, their experience, past actions and results from such, that is when the miscalculation can result in devastation, something you didn’t wish or expect.
Often our choice is based on the “cheapest,” the “easy for me to accept” position, which may not be the “Best Decision.”
“A decision made from accusations, assumptions or fear, is usually the wrong decision.”
God bless America
