High school sports roundup (Sept. 11)

Here’s a roundup of high school varsity action on Monday, Sept. 11.

Patterson Mill 3, Elkton 2: The Huskies trailed, 2-1, at halftime, but rallied back and Addison Harmel put away the winner in overtime. Juliette Bujak had the other two Huskies goals. Harmel and Hayden Price picked up assists. Jasmine Ruiz (four saves) and Ella Shriner (two saves) split time in goal.

C. Milton Wright 1, Perry Hall 0: Alix Bramble made three saves and was helped out by a strong team defense as the Mustangs shut out the Gators. Leah Holman tallied the game’s only goal in the second half. Perry Hall goalkeeper Serenity Jankowiak came up with nine saves on the night.

Carver A&T 4, Pikesville 1: Sophomore Advaitha Gante converted a corner kick into a goal to give the Wildcats a 2-1 lead late in the first half. Gante later assisted a goal from Mikaela Demby for a 3-1 halftime lead. Carver withstood a charge from Pikesville to start the second half and a clearance by defender Stephanie Avila saved a goal. The Wildcats added to their lead when Gante finished a through ball by Ashlyn Perkins. Perkins previously scored Carver’s first goal of the game.

Catonsville 1, Franklin 0: Catonsville fired 17 shots on goal at Franklin, but couldn’t get one into the back of the net until Ella Lesniewski got to one rolling out of the box and one-timed it into the goal. It was the only scored in the Comets’ win.

Winters Mill 9, Catoctin 0: Kiera Milam netted a hat trick to lead the Falcons as they improve to 2-0. Hannah Neske, Gracee Weinreich, Lizzy Bogdan, Taylor lee, Leah Benfer and Addison Lohr all added goals. Emma Jewell recorded the shutout in goal.

South Carroll 3, Boonsboro 1: Ella Boyce scored twice in the Cavaliers’ road win. Addyson Davis had two assists and Maddie Witter had one. Brooke Turner made six saves in the win.

Poly 3, North County 1: Alexis Fisher made seven saves in goal to help the Engineers to the win. Aliana Shrum scored twice for Poly, while Maddie Kopecky also scored. Kit Engelke handed out a pair of assists.

Carver A&T 1, Kenwood 1: Regulation and two overtime sessions couldn’t solve anything. The Wildcats struck first with Sammy Baunoch scoring off an Endy Lizama assist. Braden Jones made 18 saves for Carver.

Key 4, Saints Peter and Paul 2: Paolo Pena scored twice in a come-from-behind win for the Obezags (1-2). Drew Barnes and Christian Dent also scored for Key. In goa, Lunt Woodward made 11 saves.

Edgewood 3, Joppatowne 2: After the Mariners opened the game with a goal three minutes in, the Rams responded with three straight in the first half, two from David Sabillon. Markin Mensah also scored for the Rams, while Luke Sheffy and Sebastian Ayala had assists.

South Carroll 2, Boonsboro 0: Grayson North scored off a Ben Solomon assist and Cohen Blevins converted a penalty kick as the Cavaliers post the win. Nate Miller and Connor Baughman combined in goal for the shutout.

Key 3, Mount Carmel 1: The Obezags won, 25-20, 25-19, 18-25, 25-21. Emma Woznysmith had eight aces and seven kills to lead the win. Lucy Glassman had seven kills and six aces. Kristina Ajayi had five aces and eight assists.

Arundel 3, Mount de Sales 0: The Wildcats won, 27-25, 25-14, 25-22.

Glen Burnie 3, Southern 1: The Gophers picked up the win, 25-13, 22-25, 25-18, 25-13. For Southern, Huntyr Marks had 15 assists and four aces. Lexi Forbes and Kaelyn Page each had seven kills.

Williamsport 3, Century 0: In the loss, Abhi Yadlapalli had four kills for the Knights and Gabby Zajaczkowski had three. Cheyenne Ellis had 13 assists and Vanessa Gude had 17.

Havre de Grace 3, Edgewood 0: The Warriors earned the sweep, 25-14, 26-24, 25-19. Nick Scopelliti served nine aces and picked up seven digs in the win. Donald Ewing backed him with six aces. Shane Caldwell topped the team with five kills.

Patterson Mill 3, Joppatowne 0: The Huskies cruised, 25-8, 25-8, 25-12. Bryce Kelly had five aces and five kills to lead the win. Cullen Young and Dylan Lewis each had two aces with Young adding five kills and Lewis four.

C. Milton Wright 3, Harford Tech 1: The Mustangs dropped the first set, but rallied to win, 18-25, 25-20, 25-15, 25-18. Brody Hichkad led with 11 kills. Shawn Thomas tossed up 25 assists. Zach Brown had five aces to go with 10 digs.

Francis Scott Key 3, Walkersville 0: Bella Mazan scored twice and Drew Watkins added a goal as the Eagles earned the shut out victory. Haley Hamrick and Carley Topper picked up assists in the win.

Long Reach 5, Howard 0: Leilani Stewart and Chiara Pompei each scored twice in the Lightning’s win. Sam Legge also scored, while handing out three assists. Jill Shanley also had an assist. Hollow Jay made three saves to earn the shutout.

River Hill 2, Centennial 1: Carolyn Dzubak and Evelyn Rose scored for the Hawks as they topped the Eagles. Gabby Berstrom picked up an assist, while Annie Levine made seven saves in the win. Helen Baldy scored for Centennial and Jane Baldy made nine saves in goal.

Northeast 7, Meade 0: McKenzie Koch scored four goals in the win. Amber Wright, Emily Schultz and Faith Schultz also had goals. Abigayle Auster contributed an assist. Northeast’s defense didn’t allow Meade a shot on goal.

Broadneck 7, McDonogh 0: Raleigh Kerst scored twice, while Katelyn Kerns and Charlotte Robertson each finished with a goal and an assist in the Bruins’ win. Emily Naylor, Zoe Bjelac and Cayman Holmes also scored. Chloe Page and Abbie Morris had assists. Mia Moody made one save for Broadneck. Regan O’Donovan made 16 saves for McDonogh.

Wilde Lake girls 35, Hammond 5: Jane Mhonda finished with 19 points for the Wildecats to lead the way, while Laurel Sands added 16. For Hammond, Julia D’Aguanno had three points.
