Red Storm spikers fall to Peru at home | News, Sports, Jobs

Saranac Lake got off to a hot start in the opening set, holding a 19-7 lead over the Nighthawks. Despite a 7-2 run by Peru, the Red Storm took the first game.

In the second set, the two squads traded points back-and-forth and met at 11-11. With the score tied, the Nighthawks took a 20-15 lead before Saranac Lake got off to a small run to bring the score within two points.

Peru never gave up the lead and won the second game. In the final two sets, the Nighthawks also cruised to victories, completing a season sweep over the Red Storm.

Lexie Donaldson paced Saranac Lake with a team-high in aces, digs and points. Donaldson had 18 digs, nine points and three aces while earning one kill.

Anica Null controlled the front of the net with a team-high 11 kills to go along with her 10 digs, three points, two aces and two assists.

Null, who broke the school record for kills in a season with 198, leads the team with 81 kills this season. She has 379 total kills in her career.

Emily Gay was the Red Storm’s top setter, recording 12 assists while contributing with 10 digs and two kills.

Abby Isabella and Gracen Foster had solid outings for Saranac Lake. Isabella had eight points, two aces, two kills, one assist and one dig. Foster chipped in with seven points, two aces, two digs, one assist and one kill.

The Red Storm dropped to 9-6 overall. The team will wrap up the regular season against the Northeastern Clinton Cougars on the road at 6 p.m., today.
